2020 was a unique year for almost everyone. The idea of a global pandemic hijacking the year was unthinkable and yet, it happened. With 2020 being over, we find ourselves in a similar situation as what occupied most of the previous year, lockdown.
A social study conducted by UCL reported that 69% of individuals felt anxious about the effects of Covid-19 on their life. The most common reasons for worry were related to boredom and for the future. With the UK’s highly efficient vaccine programme, the end of these hard times are in sight.
Despite the milestone in vaccinations, lockdown measures will likely be in place until April. That leaves at least a few more months before we start to get some freedom back. During this time, we must take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
We have put together some tips for getting through the next few months.
Stay Connected with Friends and Family
Social interaction is essential for our wellbeing. Through the use of our smart phones and internet, we are able to call friends and family quickly and efficiently. A 30minute phone call with someone you are close with can make a big difference to your day and mood, especially if you live alone.

Taking Care of Your Body
Eating healthy and exercising can have a big impact on our we feel. Try eating a balanced meal, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly.

Create a Routine
Having set things to do in a day can give you motivation to start your day. Whether that means going for a food shop or watering your plants, have a few things planned to tick off your to-do list.
Find a New Hobby
The internet allows us to learn new things online. Try listening Spanish on Youtube or maybe try out some new cooking recipes. The list of new potential hobbies is endless and will give you something to distract you from the lockdown. The Mob Kitchen (https://www.mobkitchen.co.uk/) is a great place to get some quick and easy recipes.
Stop Reading the News
Reduce your time reading the news. You cannot control what is going on so there is no hope in checking it all the time. Focus your time on more productive things such as writing a list of things you are excited to do and try after lockdown ends. This gives you something to look forward to in the future.
At Bamford Homes, we have enjoyed our teatime catch ups and our baking sessions during lockdown. We miss going out for lunch and trying different but we know this time shall pass and the end is in sight.
